Google has acquired self-serve mobile backup service Odysee for an undisclosed sum today. The company will join the Google+ team, and will likely use its expertise to boost Google’s photo management offerings.

Odysee’s service allowed users to back up photos and videos at full quality to storage on their personal desktops, sync them across devices and share them with followers — making for what the company called an ‘endless camera roll’.

Odysee’s iOS and Android apps have been pulled from their respective app stores, but the company says it will continue to offer its service till Feb 23 and then allow users to download an archive of all their images.

Video on demand platform iROKOtv is on a push to roll out its services to more people through partnerships with telecoms operators across the continent, and started the year with two major deals.

First, the company partnered with Tigo Rwanda to provide free video entertainment to the operator’s 4G/LTE subscribers. Subscribers will be offered one month of free access to the iROKOtv library, which contains more than 4,000 movies and TV series. Tigo said the partnership added value to its 4G internet service, launched at the end of last year.

Shortly afterwards, iROKO confirmed it had partnered Vodafone Ghana in a similar arrangement, this time providing content to the operator’s subscribers for as low as US$6

Facebook means business in Africa

There were signs last year Facebook was increasingly looking at Africa, with the launch of the Internet. org app in Zambia and Kenya, but the social network has really ramped up its activity in 2015.

Firstly, the company launched Facebook Lite in a handful of African and Asian markets, a simplified version of its mobile website designed for bottom-of-the-line and dated Android. Just 252KB in size and aimed at users on 2G, Lite has been rolled out as a pilot in Nigeria, South Africa, Sudan and Zimbabwe.

The Internet.org app also saw another rollout, this time in Ghana, taking it into a third African market. Through a partnership with operator Airtel, the app allows users to access websites and online services including AccuWeather, BBC News, Jobberman, News24, SuperSport, Wattpad, Wikipedia, and, of course, Facebook, for zero data charges.

And if these rollouts weren’t signs enough that Facebook is attempting to come up with solutions to encourage Africans to utilise its services, the company has also begun hunting for personnel to staff a new Johannesburg office.

The Worst Thing

I used to think the worst thing in my life was to end up alone. It's not. The worst thing in my life is to end up with people that make you feel alone.

An honest enemy is always better than a friend who lies.

Don't let people make you feel bad or guilty for living your life. It is your life. Live it the way you want.

To be rich is not what you have in your bank account, it's what you have in your heart.

Don't mix bad words with bad mood.

People with good intentions make promises, but people with good character keep them.

Be with someone who brings out the best in you, not the stress in you.

Always trust your first gut instincts. If you genuinely feel in your heart and soul that something is wrong, it usually is.

Never explain yourself to anyone because the person who likes you doesn't need it, and the person who dislikes you won't believe it.

It hurts when you have someone in your heart but you can't have them in your arms.

Arguing with a fool only proves that there are two.

Often in life, we forget the things we should remember, and remember the things we should forget.

Never let loneliness drive you back in the arms of someone that don't respect you.

Be Thankful

Be thankful for today, because in one second, your entire life could change.

Keep going. Each step may get harder but don't stop. The view is beautiful at the top.

Happiness is not the absence of problems; it's the ability to deal with them.

The best thing you can do for a friend when they're hurting is to be there, even when you have nothing to offer but your presence.

You need to associate with people that inspire you, people that challenge you to rise higher, people that make you better. Don't waste your valuable time with people that are not adding to your growth. Your destiny is too important.

Decisions are the hardest moves to make, especially when it's a choice between what you want and what is right.

Not everyone who is single is lonely; not everyone who is taken is in love.

You can't always be nice. That's how people take advantage of you. Sometimes you have to set boundaries.

And finally, don't give up because of what someone said or did. Use that as a motivation to give it all you've got.

Finally MTN Launches N10 Recharge Card [See Photo]

Subscribers to the telecommunications service provider, MTN Nigeria will, as from Friday (today), have the opportunity to recharge their phones for as low as N10.

The Chief Marketing Officer of MTN, Bayo Adekanmbi, revealed this in a statement on Thursday.

According to Adekambi, the initiative, to be launched in Kano, was to ensure that no Nigerian was shut out of the values that the network offers.

“Apart from making it possible for customers to purchase airtime at the lowest rates, it also offers opportunities for small scale entrepreneurs to sell low-unit portion packs of recharge cards as a new revenue stream.

Again, everyday people such as Maishayi, neighborhood stalls, housewives, students, etc would also benefit immensely from this proposition.

Tech:- How To Know If The E-mail You Sent Has Been Read

We all have at one point sent an email that we never got a response to. This does nothing but keeps one wondering if they ever got the email; if they ever opened it or if they read the email at all. It is not a good feeling at all. I don’t know about you but I would be pleased to know that the recipient actually got my email but didn’t just reply. That way, I know it has nothing to do with something from my own end.

There is this tool I used to make use of, it is or was called SPYPIG. SpyPig is a simple email tracking system that sends you a notification by email when the recipient opens your message. It works with all major email providers like Yahoomail, Gmail, Outlook, HotMail, AOL and more. I don’t think it is around any more. I have been trying to use it and open their website for some months now but I have been having difficulties doing that. Maybe the developers no longer support the project.

Do not worry, I have gotten alternatives for you and here they are.

Tools That Let You Know When Your E-Mail Gets Read

These are alternatives to SpyPig. If you have used it in tha past and no longer have access to it, why not try these two I will be sharing with you here. If you just want to start tracking your emails to know when they have been read, read this article to the end too.

1. GetNotify – Free Email Tracking & Marketing service

GetNotify.com is a Free Email Tracking & Email Marketing service which tracks your sent emails and get email open and email read confirmation. Receive email message return receipt and read receipt. This means that you get alerted when the recipient read your email.

GetNotify is free to use but they do welcome and reward donations with additional features. They only allow you to send 150 emails per month (5 per day) for example on a free account, for example.

Lastly, let me make it clear before you ask me, your recipient will NOT KNOW that you have sent a tracked email. You will use your existing email address and existing email client program/web based email service provider to send your emails.

2. DidTheyReadIt.com – Free email tracking trial

When you use didtheyreadit service, every e-mail that you send is invisibly tracked without alerting the recipient. Your recipent will not know you are tracking the emails and when they read your email message, you will immediately receive the following information:

1. When, exactly, your email was opened
2. How long your email remained opened
3. Where, geographically, your email was viewed

So, what did theyreadit does in summary is to check if, when, where and how long your email was read. GetNotify can also tell you how long your email was read too but it does not come with the free service.

There are more out there but these are the ones I have tried. They are my choices, they have free packages and you can know when the recipient of your email reads it without them knowing you tracked it.
